The tradition of the stone mason has a long and noble history. From the ancient Egyptians to the Druids to the traveling Masons of Europe, the craft has evolved as humankind's reasons for building large structures has changed and as new building technologies have been developed. Despite this evolution, a great many of the basics of stone masonry have remained constant and are still in use today.
A stone mason must possess several unique characteristics to excel in his trade. He must be of sharp mind, keen eye, and physical stature. The mason must be able to think mathematically and geometrically, but retain an eye for the artistic and the organic beauty of the natural materials that he works with. He must be robust in physical strength so as to lift, shape, and set the stone. Our masons are passionate about their inclusion in the continuing lineage, or “story” of stone masons past and present and have honed these necessary skills to the point of mastery.
